Eating Healthy Foods Outside Your Home

When you are trying to eat healthy it can be tempting to stray from it while eating out side of your home. For example, eating at a restaurant can be a little challenging while dieting if they don’t have the correct meals on the menu. But if they do, and you maintain will power, you will remain eating healthy, even while eating out.

However, it can be a little tricky while looking at the menu. The menus are set up to entice the appetite and make you want whatever your eyes land on while browsing it. Thus making you want to forget all about your healthy living, so it’s best to pay attention to what is included with each meal and not the mouth watering pictures.

Even the names of the meals are made to stimulate your mind and trigger your hunger. Just because it sounds good, doesn’t mean it’s good for you.

In order to make sure you aren’t making an unhealthy decision, read the descriptions instead of the name of the meal and the pictures of it. I know it can be difficult to stay away from, but the Sizzling and Buttered Shrimp & Steak covered in cheese may not be the healthiest choice.

Studies have found of the psychological tricks on certain menus. Healthy and not so healthy items are placed close to one another to appear as if they are on the same level of healthiness. One could often be tricked into thinking this, and pick the unhealthy item.

Even veggies in a restaurant could be an unhealthy choice. Often times these veggies are prepared in a way that takes the natural nutrients from them. The can be covered in a cheese, fried or cooked too long so that the end result isn’t good.

Veggies are a great side item while eating healthy, but be aware of how they are cooked. The most healthy way to prepare these foods are the good old fashion ways, steamed, boiled or even sauteed (if done in olive oil).

Another way you could be tricked into eating bad is by choosing the sampler platters. These items come in smaller portions but they are still probably some of the worst items on the menu.

So, making healthy choices can be done while dining out, just make sure you keep in mind all the mental tricks that could sway you from it.
